The Harenna Forest forms the lush southern side of Bale Mountains National Park and provides a dramatic contrast to the open Afro-alpine landscapes of the Sanetti Plateau.

The forest is one of Ethiopia’s most important remaining natural forest areas and supports rich plant, bird and mammal diversity. Wildlife associated with the wider Harenna ecosystem includes the endemic Bale monkey and giant forest hog.

Visitors can explore Harenna through scenic drives, wildlife excursions and forest hiking trails.

The forest combines naturally with Sanetti Plateau, Dinsho and Bale Mountains trekking tours.
