Simien Mountains National Park Ethiopia
The Simien Mountains National Park is Ethiopia’s premier trekking destination and one of the most spectacular highland landscapes in Africa.
Millions of years of erosion have carved the mountains into enormous escarpments, jagged peaks, deep valleys and precipitous cliffs. UNESCO describes the park as a landscape of sharp peaks and valleys with precipices dropping approximately 1,500 metres.
But the Simiens are far more than a scenic destination.
They are home to unique Afro-alpine ecosystems and important wildlife, including the Walia ibex, gelada and Ethiopian wolf.
