Sona

Sona is a remote trekking area used on extended Simien Mountains routes that continue north from Chenek rather than returning towards Sankaber.

The trail towards Sona begins the transition from the high mountain plateau into progressively lower and warmer valleys.

This makes the route especially interesting for experienced hikers who want to explore beyond the standard tourist trekking circuit.

Sona normally forms part of longer itineraries continuing towards Mekarebiya, Mulit and Adi Arkay.
