Axum / Aksum

Aksum – also written Axum – is one of Ethiopia’s most important archaeological and historical destinations.

Once the centre of the powerful Aksumite Kingdom, the city contains monumental stelae, ancient tombs, archaeological remains and sites connected to Ethiopia’s long Christian tradition.

UNESCO describes Aksum as the heart of an ancient civilization that became one of the most powerful states between the Eastern Roman Empire and Persia.
