Chenek
Chenek is one of the most important trekking and wildlife locations in Simien Mountains National Park.
Situated at approximately 3,600 metres, the area is surrounded by dramatic cliffs, high mountain grasslands and the Bwahit massif.
Chenek is particularly well known as one of the best areas on the classic Simien trekking route to search for the endemic Walia ibex, while geladas, raptors and other highland wildlife may also be encountered.
For longer expeditions, Chenek serves as the gateway towards Bwahit Pass, Ambiko and Ras Dejen, while shorter hiking holidays may use it as their easternmost camp before returning towards Gondar.
