Explore the heart of Simien Mountains National Park on this 5-day trekking and hiking tour from Gondar.
This itinerary includes many of the classic Simien experiences: Sankaber, Jinbar Waterfall, Geech, Imet Gogo and Chenek, before finishing with a high-altitude hike into the Bwahit area.
It is an excellent choice for travellers who want a serious multi-day Simien Mountains walking holiday but do not have enough time for a longer Ras Dejen summit expedition.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – Gondar → Debark → Sankaber
Meet your guide in Gondar and drive towards Debark and the Simien Mountains.
After completing park arrangements, continue into the park and begin an introductory hike towards Sankaber.
The trail offers immediate views of the escarpment and excellent opportunities to see geladas.
Trekking: Approximately 2 hours
Overnight: Sankaber
Elevation: Approx. 3,250 m
Day 2 – Sankaber → Jinbar Waterfall → Geech
Follow the classic hiking trail towards Geech.
Pass grasslands and heather vegetation before reaching views of Jinbar Waterfall.
Descend towards the river and climb to Geech.
Trekking: Approximately 5–6 hours
Distance: Around 10 km
Overnight: Geech
Elevation: Approx. 3,600 m
Day 3 – Imet Gogo → Saha → Kedadit → Geech
Spend the day exploring some of the best viewpoints in the Simien Mountains.
Hike to Imet Gogo, approximately 3,926 metres, before continuing towards Saha and Kedadit.
Enjoy panoramic views over valleys, cliffs and distant peaks.
Return to Geech.
Trekking: Approximately 5–6 hours
Overnight: Geech
Day 4 – Geech → Chenek
Leave Geech and follow the escarpment towards Chenek.
The route is one of the most scenic sections of the trek.
Look for geladas, raptors and, with luck, Ethiopian wolves.
Chenek is particularly well known for possible Walia ibex sightings.
Trekking: Approximately 7–8 hours
Overnight: Chenek
Day 5 – Bwahit Highlands → Gondar
Begin early with a hike from Chenek towards the Bwahit massif.
Reach a suitable high viewpoint according to fitness, weather and available time.
Return to Chenek, meet the vehicle and drive to Gondar via Debark.
