Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – Addis Ababa → Awash National Park

Leave Addis Ababa in the morning and travel east through Ethiopia’s Rift Valley towards Awash National Park.

After arrival, enter the park and begin exploring its dry savannah, acacia woodland and river environments.

Visit Awash Falls where conditions and timing permit.

Take an afternoon wildlife drive and look for animals such as Beisa oryx, gazelles, warthogs, baboons and numerous bird species.

Overnight: Awash area

Day 2 – Awash National Park → Harar

Enjoy an early morning wildlife excursion before breakfast.

Morning hours can provide good opportunities for birdwatching and mammal sightings.

Leave Awash and continue east through increasingly dry landscapes towards Dire Dawa and Harar.

Arrive in Harar and check into your hotel.

In the evening, experience Harar’s famous traditional relationship with spotted hyenas.

Day 3 – Full-Day Harar City Tour

Spend the day exploring Harar Jugol, the historic walled city.

Because elephant movements and sightings are unpredictable, elephants should not be advertised as a guaranteed sighting.

Return to Harar later in the day.

Alternatively, the excursion can be customized around cultural villages, landscapes or local markets depending on current conditions.

Overnight: Harar

Day 5 – Harar → Dire Dawa → Addis Ababa

After breakfast, leave Harar and drive towards Dire Dawa.

Depending on your flight schedule, explore selected areas of Dire Dawa, including historic neighbourhoods, markets or railway-related heritage.

Transfer to Dire Dawa Airport for the flight to Addis Ababa.

Upon arrival, continue with your international departure or other travel arrangements.
